Our Councilman

I was born and raised in Nashville and am a product of Metro Public Schools. I live with my wife Jennifer and our beloved pets Truman, Otis, and Gracie in the Rolling Acres area of East Nashville. We plan to add to our family in October, when we expect our first baby—a boy!

I have a long history of professional and volunteer work dedicated to neighborhood improvement and issues critical to working people. I am the president of Rolling Acres Neighborhood Association, serve on the boards of TN Conservation Voters, TN Citizen Action and U.S. Action. I am also an active volunteer with Hands On Nashville and helps coordinate their annual city-wide public school clean up day as well as works with Re!Hab a volunteer home repair effort for low income and senior residents in neighborhoods throughout East Nashville. Our neighborhood matters to me and to my family.

Erik scored a "31" out of a possible "33" points in agreement with the Tying Nashville Together (TNT) platform.
By day, I am the Public Policy Director for the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services (TALS) . There, I work hard to improve access to legal services for low-income Tennesseans on matters such as eviction, domestic violence, and health care. Everyday, I work with average citizens, legal aid attorneys and state legislators on improving laws on such issues as child welfare, disability access, seniors, healthcare and predatory loan lending. I was previously Executive Director of Tennessee Citizen Action a statewide consumer watchdog organization based in Nashville. I have also held national policy/advocacy positions at the Campaign for America’s Future, Millennium Communications Corporation, Youth Vote 96 and the National Wildlife Federation.

My career and personal volunteer work have been dedicated to helping people and making positive change in the issues that matter to us all—equal protection under the law, access to affordable housing and healthcare, a safe environment and quality education. I am passionate about community voice and the role of everyday people in improving government and neighborhoods. I have experience working with citizens and policy makers, dedication to our neighborhood and its issues and a passion to serve. I will work with you to make District 7 a better place when elected on August 7.
